Poor health keeps people trapped in a trundling of poverty. VSO's projects and volunteers help health workers, governments and communities improve wangle to quality health services. Last year we supported 900,000 people wangle better healthcare. We focus on: ©VSO/Andrew Aitchison Maternal and neonatal health Each year, over 2.6 million babies die within the first 28 days of life.  Most of these deaths happen in developing countries, from preventable causes.  We modernize maternal and newborn health by: Training frontline health workers Supporting communities to demand a largest service Improving management of health services Promoting low-cost, high-impact technology and practice Championing the use of data to modernize services Our work in action: Up to 40% increasingly babies surviving in Ethiopia in our best practice newborn intensive superintendency units Training a highly skilled generation of midwives in Malawi ©VSO/Georgie Scott Youth sexual health Poor sexual and reproductive health has a huge impact on young people - expressly young girls and women.  We’re working with huge and growing youth populations in developing countries to: Create spaces for communities to engage with issues of sexual health and rightsModernizesexual and reproductive health services Advocate for rights of young people to make decisions well-nigh their own bodies, including through partnerships like Girls Not Brides Increasing youth uptake of sexual health services in Zambia Helping stop child marriages in Bangladesh ©VSO/Ginny Lattul HIV and AIDS Around 37 million people are living with HIV. Our unique difference is that we minimise the impact of the pandemic by working at all levels of society to: Support communities taxing better testing and healthcare Advocating for the rights of caregivers Ensuring there is good quality antiretroviral coverage Working with government to legalise fairer treatment for anyone living with the virus VSO’s Regional Health and AIDS Initiative for Southern Africa (RHAISA) co-ordinates our response in the region where two out of every three people in the world living with HIV reside. Supporting women widowed by AIDS in Mozambique Improving vital health and wangle to HIV services for prisoners Other areas of work Improving education Making sure everyone gets the skills they need to live a fulfilled, dignified life.  Last year our work improving wangle and quality of education reached 325,000 people Improving livelihoods Secure, reliable wangle to supplies and income so people can live with independence and dignity. Last year we helped modernize wangle to supplies and income for 115, 000 people.
